MCDescollines Avocate (“MCDescollines”, “we”, “us” or “our”) is a law firm providing legal consultation, representation and drafting services, with offices in Sherbrooke and Quebec City.

With the development of new communication tools, particular attention must be paid to the protection of privacy. This is why we undertake to respect the confidentiality of the personal information we collect.

Information we collect

We may collect the following types of information:

a. Personal information

• First and last name
• Email address
• Telephone number
• Mailing address
• Billing information
• Any other information you voluntarily provide

This information is gathered through the forms on the site and through the interaction established between you and us.

b. Technical information

• IP address
• Browser type and operating system
• Pages visited and duration of visits
• Connection and usage logs

c. Sensitive information

In certain situations, you may send us sensitive information as part of a consultation request (for example, details specific to your file). Such information is treated with the highest degree of confidentiality.

We do ask, however, that you not include confidential or sensitive information in the forms on this site. Until a mandate has been opened, these exchanges are not covered by professional secrecy; and if we represent a party whose interests are opposed to yours, we may be required to disclose to our client whatever you have sent us.

Sharing of information

Storage and security

Your information is protected by appropriate technical and organizational security measures to prevent data loss, unauthorized access, and unauthorized modification or disclosure:

• Access management: authorized persons and data subjects
• Username and password
• Firewalls and network monitoring software
• Data backup
• Encrypted protocol (HTTPS) for data in transit

We undertake to maintain a high degree of confidentiality by incorporating the technological innovations that ensure the confidentiality of your exchanges. However, since no mechanism offers maximum security, a degree of risk is always present when using the Internet to transmit personal information.

Cookies and similar technologies

Our site uses no advertising cookies and sells no data. Fonts are hosted on our own servers rather than called from a third party.

We use Google Analytics 4 to measure site traffic: pages viewed, time on site, referral source and device type. This tool sets audience-measurement cookies and sends that usage data to Google LLC, which may process it outside Quebec. We use it solely to understand which content is useful to you and to improve the site.

This measurement is switched off until you accept it. On your first visit, a banner asks for your choice; no measurement cookie is set and no data is sent to Google before you click “Accept”. If you decline, the measurement script is never even loaded.

Google Analytics 4 does not record your IP address, and we never use these statistics to identify you personally. Nor are they cross-referenced with the information you send us through a form.

Strictly necessary cookies may also be set by our hosting provider to ensure the security and proper functioning of the site.

You can change your mind at any time, as easily as you gave your consent: the “Cookies” link at the bottom of every page reopens the banner so you can accept or decline again. Declining after having accepted stops the measurement immediately.

You can also disable cookies in your browser settings (which may however limit certain features) or install the Google Analytics opt-out add-on, which applies to every site that uses it.

Your rights

Under applicable law, including Quebec’s Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector, you have the following rights:

• Right of access: consult the information we hold about you
• Right of rectification: correct or update your information
• Right of erasure: request its deletion
• Right to object: refuse that your information be used for certain purposes mentioned at the time of collection
• Right to withdraw: request that your information no longer appear, for example, in a mailing list

Data retention

We keep your information for as long as necessary to respond to your request or deliver the service, to meet our legal and ethical obligations (including the file retention periods imposed by the Barreau du Québec) and to protect our legitimate interests.

Changes to this policy

This policy may be modified at any time. The date of the last update appears at the top of the page. Should significant changes occur, we will inform the individuals concerned.
